\u2757\ufe0f The international community took no action, and Russia was forced to stand in the way of the aggressor and carry out an operation to compel Georgia to peace. <\/b>

In order to stave off any further attempts by Tbilisi to regain the \u201clost\u201d territories by force, the leadership of our country decided to recognise Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states<\/b>.

Subsequently, Moscow consistently provided extensive assistance to these Republics<\/b> in strengthening their sovereignty and security and creating favourable conditions for socioeconomic development. The signing of the Treaty on Deepening Allied Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia<\/a> came as an important milestone in the development of bilateral ties.

In October 2008, in order to achieve post-conflict settlement between Georgia and Abkhazia and South Ossetia<\/b>, the Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in the South Caucasus<\/a> were launched. Thanks in large part to this format and the mechanisms for interaction established under its auspices, relative peace has been maintained along the borders of the three states throughout these years.

Reaffirming its unwavering commitment to continuing work within this negotiation format, the Russian Side urges all participants to pay particular attention to addressing the priority task of the Geneva International Discussions<\/b> which is ensuring lasting security for Abkhazia and South Ossetia and looks forward to seeing practical efforts begin as soon as possible to draft and sign a non-use-of-force agreement between Tbilisi<\/b>, on the one hand, Sukhum and Tskhinval<\/b>, on the other hand.

These goals are becoming particularly important<\/b> amid attempts by Western countries, the Nazi regime in Kiev, and radical Georgian political forces to drag Tbilisi into new bloody ventures in the South Caucasus.

Moscow notes Georgian society\u2019s ongoing attempts to reassess the August 2008 events. It is a justified move to recognise the full responsibility of the Saakashvili regime for unleashing the armed conflict<\/b>. Note has been taken of the statements by the Georgian leadership regarding the importance of reconciliation<\/b> with Abkhazians and South Ossetians which give rise to hope that this transformation in approaches will not remain at the level of declarations but will rather be supported by specific practical steps aimed at settling relations with Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

The growing threat posed by ISIL and its affiliates in Africa is a matter of serious concern<\/b>, as are the increasingly sophisticated methods of extremist and terrorist propaganda and the evolving means used to carry out terrorist attacks.

The use by terrorists of new and emerging technologies \u2013 including digital financial assets, artificial intelligence and UAVs<\/b> \u2013 presents a major challenge requiring a coordinated international response.

\ud83e\udd1d Russia consistently supports the efforts of <\/b>the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism<\/b><\/a> to strengthen the capacities of Member States.<\/b>

With funding from Russia\u2019s voluntary contribution, the Office provided technical assistance to countries in Africa and Central Asia<\/b> under a project aimed at preventing weapons from falling into the hands of terrorists. It also prepared comprehensive analytical materials and practical recommendations.

We attach great importance to and support counter-terrorism cooperation<\/b> within #BRICS, the #SCO, the #CIS and the #CSTO, which Russia chairs this year.

\ud83d\udc49 The shift of international terrorist activity towards Africa is largely the result of support for illegal armed groups by former colonial powers driven by neo-colonial ambitions<\/b>.

In July, following consultations between the Foreign Ministers of Russia and the Confederation of Sahel States<\/a>, a Joint Statement was adopted condemning<\/b> the \u201ccriminal collusion between Ukraine, France, certain other countries and terrorist groups operating in the Sahel\u201d<\/i>.

The Kiev regime has long been entirely dependent on the EU and NATO economically and militarily<\/b>, while they use Ukraine to wage a proxy war against Russia.

The same approach is now being applied in Africa<\/b>: by involving Ukrainians in supporting terrorist groups in the Sahel, Kiev\u2019s Western sponsors are once again pursuing their own objectives through proxies.

\u261d\ufe0f Russia consistently advocates stronger international counter-terrorism cooperation based on <\/b>the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy<\/b><\/a> adopted in July<\/b>, with the UN playing the central and coordinating role in sustainably reducing the terrorist threat and strengthening international security.
